⁄⁄ Mechassault 2 (Xbox)

⁄⁄ Well, I picked up the limited edition Mechassault 2 for the Xbox. Many things were promised, and they were delivered upon. However, I was still dissapointed with the finished product.

The graphics are great, undoubtably. I was extremely impressed and that was the first thing I noticed, they put a lot of work into the graphics and it looked a whole lot better than the original. If I could get the original Mechassault with Mechassault 2 graphics, I'd pay full game price, that would definitely be awesome. They made a good move on the controls aswell, sticking with the classic controls from the original made it easier for older players to get used to. The music and sound is pretty good too, I cant really complain.

Here are the problems with the game. Honestly, it seems like it was based around putting over team gameplay. With power-up and health dropping along with helicopters and other team-based vehicles, it seems they didn't put much thought into single - player and multy player free for all gameplay. Here's my major problem with the game - you dont start out in a mech. You start out as a human and have to get into a mech, that annoyed me beyond beleif. Also, the mech jacking feature annoys me as those with faster connections will always get the jack whereas those with slower connections will never get it.

These problems could all be solved, however, if Microsoft put some thought into their gameplay modes. I really think they could have added a "Classic Mode" where you start out in a mech and battle like the original, they could've thrown in a "Classic Destruction" and "Classic Last Man Standing". In that mode, you would have to stay in your mech and mech jacking and new vehichles would not be allowed. However, the graphics would still be just as good as they are in the rest of the Mechassault 2 modes. Therefor, older fans who enjoyed the original would be able to enjoy the game as they used to with upgraded graphics.

This one has a much better storyline. Now, instead of just being a guy in a mech, you actually have a character. Dont worry, there's still plenty of "Word of Blake" warfare thrown at you, you just have a real character to relate to now.

Graphics - 9/10
Undoubtably the graphics were awesome, couldn't be much better in my opinion.

Controls - 10/10
Controls were just like the original, which in my opinion is perfect just as is.

Sound/Music - 7/10
Not amazing music, but cant really complain either.

Gameplay - 6/10
I was dissapointed at the lack of a classic mode, and it just didn't feel like the original game.

Story - 8/10
Could've been better, but pretty good over all.

Overall - 7/10
It's an alright game, but it didn't live up to the title of Mechassault sequel in my opinion.
